Even Less Than Perfect, Willis is Excellent

Hetty Crane

Updated: Dec 6, 2020

I did enjoy Crosstalk, but not as much as Bellwether. It has somewhat of the same feel and plot devices, people constantly getting interrupted and wild goose chases - but I found the premise in Bellwether more interesting and original. I could mostly see where this was going fairly early on, though there were a few surprises along the way. As one reviewer pointed out, the ending felt rushed - you're tumbled along as the tension grows,

but there is definitely a too obvious deus ex machina feel to this, unlike Bellwether. I do get that this is comedy, and very different from her more serious work, (which I love- Black out, All Clear, Doomsday Book) but even so I was a little disappointed by the over the top ending. I don't mean to sound negative about the book, it's still a jolly good read. Even when she is less than perfect, Willis is an excellent read. I can't wait for the next book.
